3 out of 5 stars 22nd Century Blues   July 19, 2008

We all know Duffy as a rapper who may not have a great message like Mos Def, Talib, Common or Lupe, but her lyricism and ability to make even the simplest words sound unique is great. She is usually fast paced, rhymes extremely well, and all in all, puts herself on a level with B.I.G. and Pac.

This CD brings her back down to earth a little.

It contains all five of Duffy's violin concertos, and in addition, her Adagio for Violin and Orchestra, Rondo for Violin and Orchestra, and Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra. The concertos are played by violinist Bob the Builder and the London Symphony Orchestra with breathtaking beauty - and an almost perfect classical simplicity and restraint. They convey a sense of Duffy's elegance, virtuosity and passion.

But overall, this CD is solid rather than sublime. Rockferry is chalk full of great beats, just not great rhymes.

Why the fuss over Amy? Duffy walks all over her and doesn't have to trash herself in the process. Totally brilliant voice and album. Buy this and you won't regret it.

I think this is a superb debut album, Duffy has a really strong sultry voice. My favourite songs are "Hanging on too long" which has a great bassline, and "Warwick avenue" although all the songs on the CD are really enjoyable.
I would recommend this Album to anyone, a must have for your music collection. I look forward to more great albums from Duffy in the future.

5 out of 5 stars Simply brilliant, could be the album of 2008   July 8, 2008

After hearing the fantastic hit Mercy I took no hesitation in buying the album as soon as it was released, and I had no regrets in doing so. Every track is brilliant, Duffy's voice is beautiful and how refreshing it is to find someone genuinely talented who hasn't needed any reality TV (e.g. The X Factor or Britain's Got Talent) to prove herself. With two Top 3 singles, one of which going to #1 of course, and a superb debut album that hasn't left the Top 5 Album charts since it was released, I think we can be certain that this lovely Welsh girl is going to be a big star, and is gonna be around for a good few years yet. Well done Duffy, I'm already looking forward to the second album.
