4 out of 5 stars Beautiful, bittersweet songs   October 2, 2008

I first heard Duffy on a long car journey on a friend's mixtape, the track was Rockferry. My friend skipped the track in impatient disgust, which drove me mad! I'm usually into my alternative stuff but I like a bit of everything in my collection, so I have something to listen to for every mood. I love this album because it's feminine, heartfelt, sweet and singable. I'm not mad on the last three tracks but they're by no means awful, I just prefer the others. I feel I can relate to Duffy in all her strengths and weaknesses. Some have compared her unfavourably to Amy Winehouse, who I also like, but Duffy doesn't have the selfish, bitchy airs and is lovely to listen to when you have some alone-time.

This is the best CD I've heard in about 30 years. Brings back all the old soul sounds of the sixties. Wilson Picket etc. I love it and so do my friends. Wish Duffy had another CD out and I would buy it immediately. Fab debut CD. She does sound like Dusty but far superior in my opinion. Buy this and you won't regret it! All the songs are haunting and you fall in love with them instantly. Excellent

I love this CD. It's very 60's, retro, classy and unique. Duffy has a wonderful voice. I would like her to sing some Dusty songs and `To sir with love'. My children listen to the CD aswell (12 & 9) and are equally taken with it. Here's to the next Album.

Track 1. Rockferry
This is a really good song, seems boring at the begining but as it gets further into the song its alot better 10/10

Track 2. Warwick Avenue
Second sigle of the album a great song but not the best one of the album. Could be worse 8/10

Track 3. Serious
Another really good song on the album, she has the perfect voice for this song 10/10

Track 4. Stepping Stone
The third single of the album its a really good song but i found it abit slow for me but it is still a great song 9.5/10

Track 5. Syrup & Honey
Probably the worst song on the album. Its still a good song but i find that it is quite continous and doesnt have a corus, i dont really listen to this song very much becuse this song is not the kind of music that i like 6/10

Track 6. Hanging On Too Long
Another really good song. The first verse seems to drag on for abit but when the song actually kicks in it is a really good one. I would say that this is the best song on the album if you pay attention to it 10/10

Track 7. Mercy
The first songle of the album, at number 1 for 5 weeks, i do like this song but i dont think that it was good enough to be at number 1 for 5 weeks, its a really good song but not that good 9/10

Track 8. Delayed Devotion
One of the best songs on the album it has great verses and great lyrics and choruses and is a really catchy tune, i didnt like it at first but then i got usto it and now it is 1 of my favourites 10/10

Track 9. I'm Scared
I didnt like this one at first util i listened to the chorus and i started to like it and now i love it. It is another of the best songs on the album. 10/10

Track 10. Distant Dreamer
I didnt pay much attention to this song at the begining because it lasted 5 minutes and i thought that it was just a tune with no words but when i listened to it i thought it was great and still like it today 10/10

This album is truly awful. I bought it for my girlfriend almost purely because almost everyone else in the world has bought a copy. We both enjoy Amy Winehouse' Back to Black and as my g'friend usually ends up having to listen to my choice of music I thought this may be a welcome change for us both...

WRONG!!!

I believe the production is by Bernard Butler - who I like, however if he had just encouraged Duffy to write some words which didn't rely on a second hand rhyming dictionary from start to finish I might think the album marginally better. Poor, poor , poor lyrics and a lack-lustre vocal performance - rubbish.

I'm telling everyone how poor this is and I didn't want you to feel left out - don't be, read this and believe me - "it's dross".
