Staggeringly beautiful June 16, 2008 Christopher Bunch 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
One of the most beautiful records of all time. I cried, oh God I cried. What wonderful things would Dennis have done if the drugs hadn't got him. Now in it's re-recorded version it's just an incredible experience to listen to the music and poetry from his heart and the pain you can almost touch. Sit down and listen to this in a cosy space with a bottle of wine and experience real genius the like of which only comes round in one lifetime. Thank you Dennis for leaving us this masterpiece.
An Opportunity Missed June 16, 2008 Baxi (UK) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Firstly, this review is based on the `Legacy Edition' just issued (2x CD version) and considers this new package as a whole. This is the greatest solo album by any Beach Boy, and there are some superb ones - try finding Carl Wilson's albums! I have owned one version or another of this album since it's conception and it drips with genius, Dennis was the most underrated Beach Boy, even though he must have learnt a lot from Brian. But the main reason I have left off a star is the glaring missed opportunity by Sony/BMG to make a true collectors/fans package of this, incorporating all the complete and Demo recordings from the sessions. The first and very obvious omission is the fantastic single `Sound Of Free'/'Lady', both sides of which better many tracks on this package. Other recordings from these sessions have surfaced on BB albums (LA, Endless Harmony Soundtrack etc) and these should be included here. What Sony/BMG have done is `teased' the new fan into looking for more, and there is plenty out there (although not all officially available). However, it is still fantastic to have these recordings back in the public domain especially in this re-mastered guise.
Believe some of the hype May 27, 2008 Chadders 4 out of 9 found this review helpful
True, the hype surrounding this album is somewhat out of proportion with its real quality and the fact that it hasn't been available on CD for years has only served to feed this. However, it's still a whole lot better than the drivel that the Beach Boys were releasing in the mid 70s (M.I.U. Album anyone?). I would urge anyone with more than a passing interest in the Beach Boys to buy it and make their own mind up.

I have never heard this album but it's reputation goes before it.The solo work he released on Beach Boys albums is staggeringly beautiful.I don't think there has ever been a more beautiful song than Cuddle Up.Can't wait for this to be released.
They've found the holy grail! May 12, 2008 Andrew Lloyd (London, UK) 2 out of 9 found this review helpful
I can't believe its finally here, this has to be the most exciting release this year and should gain as much if not more respect as Smile did. This is a true classic, and is indeed the holy grail of all beach boys albums.
