5 out of 5 stars A Classic!   June 5, 2007
A. Boylett (London UK)

There's not really much to say here except this is a great timeless record full of songs that you will love to listen to again and again. When you marry great melodies to chrisp production, beautiful arrangements and intelligent, involving lyrics you can't go wrong really. There are more addictive hooks here than one record should legally be allowed to have.

If Robbie has any sense and wants a massive hit record (and frankly he needs one after Rudebox), he should just have a word with Mr Duffy and just cover this album so that these songs get the sort of audience they deserve. :-)

Honestly, buy this and do yourself and your ears and your spirits a favour!

5 out of 5 stars Me too   February 20, 2004

A bit of a mixed bag, this, but still with more than enough great entertainment to merit 5 stars. #1 stand-out track is the Eurovisual "You are" - surely one of the best pop songs ever written.

Stephen is on even more autobiographical form than usual, eg. in the songs "The Deal", "23" and "The Postcard". The best of these is "Eucharist" (on which he lets us know he'll always love us). Cheers, mate. The fun "17" and the Mediterranean "She belongs to all" are great tracks too. And you have to admire an artist who can put such opposite tracks as "Autopsy" and "Something good" on the same record.

There are one or two ropey pop songs on here but even Stephen can't be perfect all the time. :) We should thank our lucky stars he's still writing for us.
