1 out of 5 stars Oh come on!   March 20, 2008

I've listened to this drivel - the record and all the hyped-up reviews of Duffy - and finally I've had enough. It's rubbish. 'You got me beggin', you got me beggin', you got me beggin' ad nauseum. Even dance songs can have good lyrics, it has happened. And enough already of these affected warbling or bellowing, sinus-afflicted girls (Adele's another...) I'm not hearing anything great here. And as for the Dusty comparisons, just just insulting to Dusty's versatility and emotional/vocal dynamic range. For god's sake, Duffy is plain Duff.

4 out of 5 stars ...a fabulous pop single...   March 8, 2008

Unless you have been living under a stone recently, or Basingstoke, you can't have failed to notice the hype, hyperbole and Number 1 album and single from Aimee Anne Duffy.

The latest in the line of post-Winehouses, someone up there certainly likes her. I mean, come on, three appearances on Later with Jools Holland prior to her debut album coming out!

But fairs fair, she did her share of due paying, so the rock snobs will tolerate her and, frankly, this is a fabulous pop single, so who cares. Sure, it's hardly cutting edge, harking back to the sixties girl groups ala the other Amy, but all trebled up to sound good on the radiogram, it's a proper old-fashioned three minute classic single.

Hopefully, there is more to Duffy than being a pop sensation. Time will tell, but there is talent in abundance and voice to die for.

This is the best single I`ve heard in absolute ages. It beats everything possible on my account! I know it`s only March but I`ll vote for it as the best single of 2008! So brilliant. I hear it on the radio at work and it really livens me up even when I`m feeling done for! It`s got that something, so good. Again - THE BEST SINGLE. Duffy - we love your music.

P.S. Ignore any IDIOTS who disagree with me!!!

"BUY IT"

Duffy got my blood pumping with these two subliminal tracks (Mercy, Tomorrow), taken from her debut single CD.

These 2 Duffy tracks are on my summer 2008 Hot List!

Don't try and deconstruct the tunes.

Don your sharpest tailored suit or your silky figure-hugging frock - just DANCE.

Incredibly soulful. Incredibly sexy.

5 out of 5 stars Duffy is awesome, really glad she is doing so well!   February 28, 2008

So, Mercy has already been number 1 for two weeks just on downloads and this physical release looks set to boost its success even further. Duffy looks gorgeous on the cover and the song itself is pure brilliance, a departure from the ballad Rockferry, Mercy is an uptempo gem of a track. Based around a 'Stand By Me' esque beat and an ace organ riff, like Rockferry, this is the perfect blend of the old and new - and Duffy delivers it perfectly, proof of her ingenuity and talent as an artist.

That chorus of 'You got me beggin' for mercy' is just so catchy and the 'yeah, yeah, yeah' parts are dead cute - the song's got everything and as if you didn't need anymore persuading, it's a perfect taster for an album which looks set to be one of the biggest sellers of the year.

Tomorrow is yet another brilliant b-side from Duffy, another slice of retro perfection, all 60s guitars and strings. I love it!
