From their very first release, Sigur Ros were the darlings of the music press, and it's easy to see why. A loose Icelandic conglomerate, they are multi-instrumentalists involved in acting, design, story-telling and a myriad other creative pursuits--thus they're not simply fascinating in themselves but also reminiscent of the Sugarcubes, who introduced Björk to a grateful world back in the 1980s. Ny Batteri is a mini-album and, as ever with Sigur Ros, it's simply and classically packaged, this time in matt black adorned with an angel winged alien (a telling touch as Sigur Ros seem to be aiming in their music for the beautiful and strange). The tracks begin slowly, with quiet, jazzy brass or a warped keyboard, then slowly build into echoing gothic cathedrals of sound, or sweeping orchestrals floods. The vocals are uniformly high, human and vulnerable, not far removed from religious incantations. There's a beauty and solemnity to Ny Batteri that's extremely rare and valuable. As sinister and beautiful as the best of massive attack, this record is a must have. It is simply fantastic. Ny Batteri itself strikes me dumb everytime. If you don't believe me check it out on their official web site. The insrumentals strike of lonley mountainsides and freezing weather that sends shivers down your spine and the vocals could easily reduce you to tears. Buy it!

Everything that I've heard by Sigur Rós - including this CD - is always beautiful, calming, full of soaring emotions and they are a truely amazing band. If you don't agree with me...you're missing out on a great experience.

If you have been listening to G-d Speed You Black Emperor, A Silver Mt Zion or Mogwai you will be impressed by this EP. From the fragile beauty of the 1 track to the haunting 3rd and crushing 4th you can not help be impressed (or in my case amazed). If you like low fi with beautiful voices and staggering guitars then this will be up your street but be warned- it will be a fairly lunatic street
