2 out of 5 stars Enjoyable repertoir, ruined by poor recording   November 14, 2004

"They all laughed when Edison recorded sound" sings Ms Walker, but he made less than a pig's ear of it than Anthony Howell, who apparently recorded this release on his walkman placed under a his chair in the Wigmore Hall. The 1988 recording disappoints severely compared with the '50s efforts of the Flanders and Swan gigs, for example. The words are barely audible, and Vignoles' pianism lost in a wallowing, boomy acoustic.

Buy the CD for the rep, by all means, but don't to be able to enjoy it without the libretto to hand. Fortunately, the words are in the booklet. Badly done, Hyperion!

5 out of 5 stars This will have you in stitches...   June 19, 2001

...if the sardonic and witty delivery of some fantastic tunes is your cup of tea. Sarah Walker executes some fine old favourites and some less obvious ones too. "Lime Jello Marshmallow Cottage Cheese Surprise" and co will change your life and leave you feeling a happier person than before you put this one in the CD-player. Sarah Walker has the astonishing ability to deliver the soulful and moody, the jazzy and husky, and the downright comical to perfection. A genius who deserves to be in every CD rack.
