4 out of 5 stars Probably the best Hillsong album   October 9, 2007

This is probably the best Hillsong CD so far if you actually want to use the songs in church worship. The songs are both contemporary in sound and singable. Here contemporary means having a definite 80's pop/rock influence, much like a lot of music that has got into the charts in this decade.

First song `Let Creation Sing' has a Belinda Carlisle vibe, `Salvation Is Here' has chiming guitars resurrecting the sound of Big Country. `His Love' starts with a classic 80's base line, but then goes rather soft , `Emmanuel' is a standout slow song of worship to our `Shepherd King' that fires on all cylinders: good lyrics, good tunes, good arrangements, good worshipful performance.

There are weaknesses: the many exhortations to worship to God in the lyrics are not balanced by enough meat of declaring what we are worshipping God for. There is very little mention of Jesus' self sacrifice for us here. A diet of Hillsong songs alone would not be a balanced spiritual diet. However they do what they do about as well as it can be done. For instance `Let Us Adore Him' is a highly effective climbing, spiralling exhortation to adoration.

I imagine many Hillsong enthusiasts mix their songs like these with meatier ones to provide more balanced worship.

This is the reduced length 1 CD version of the album, so that last two rocking numbers `What The World Will Never Take' and `Tell The World' are missed out. A longer 2CD version is available on amazon.co.uk (information correct as of October 9th 2007).
