Re discovered a STAR October 31, 2006 Martin (SE London) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Fabulous! I've not heard much of her lately but then I played the CD,s. I cannot think of a bad track. I find that I keep repeat playing most of the tracks I find it hard to move on. What is apparent throughout is the great playing from the band. Its great value and one that is being exclusively played in my car.
Well worth the purchase April 7, 2006 Dhekelia (Bedfordshire, England) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
I don't know a great deal about Randy Crawford's music, though I remember her big hits (i.e. 'Street Life', 'You Might Need Somebody', 'Almaz' and 'One Day I'll Fly Away' - all of which are included on this double CD), but I'm so glad I bought this CD. Pure listening pleasure song after song - I can never work out why people like Randy Crawford, Dorothy Moore and Ruby Winters were not given the credit they truly deserved. Superb voices, equally brilliant songs - and such delivery. Do yourself a big favour and buy this CD today - you won't regret it. I certainly didn't. Come back Randy - show the 'singers' of today what a real soul voice should sound like!
Double-CD of music by under-rated American soul singer June 8, 2005 Peter Durward Harris (Leicester England) 36 out of 39 found this review helpful
Randy (born Veronica Crawford) is a brilliant American soul singer who had a UK top five hit (Street life) as un-credited vocalist with the Crusaders in 1973, then had two UK top five hits (One day I'll fly away, Almaz) in the eighties as a solo singer. Randy never achieved this level of success in her homeland. Apart from those three major hits, Randy had two other UK top twenty hits (You might need somebody, Rainy night in Georgia) and several minor hits, all of which are included here, these being Imagine (a live recording), He reminds me, Last night at dance land, Secret combination, Nightline, Give me the night, Diamante (with Zucchero) and One hello. Most of the songs here are originals but, with her outstanding voice, Randy is a great interpreter of other people's songs, as this collection shows with her covers of such classics as Knocking on heaven's door, At last, This old heart of mine and What a difference a day makes as well as Imagine. This comprehensive collection truly is the very best of Randy Crawford, one of the finest soul singers there has ever been.
