Morten Gunnar Larsen must be the world's foremost interpreter of ragtime and early jazz piano today. His playing is simply breathtaking, and his great love and understanding of this music is evident. If you love ragtime and old time jazz piano, look no further than this CD. It's absolutely fantastic!

4 out of 5 stars An Exellent Performance(s!)   November 17, 2003

(l00t, i'm getting better at typing!)
The performance itself is stunning. Overall, Larsen is an Adequate Performer. He Does not Over-Use the Pedal, and keeps to only slight Improvisation. You can sometimes hear him tapping his feet slightly in love to the music. A great Performer, but there are negatives to his work. These follow:

For a start, if you listen to "Solace" or "Grace & Beauty" then you have to turn your volume up. But, then, at the last Strain of Solace, and somewhere in the middle for G&B, you almost get deafened by the amount of noise coming from your Speakers (or whatever you have attached to your Stereo). Then, there's the Tempo. Although I Know he TRYs to keep in tempo, He Commonly goes over speed. Right now I am listening to the Sting's version of Solace. Never does it overspeed!

That's it really!

5 out of 5 stars One of the worlds top pianist recordings   May 19, 2003

I have lost count of the hundreds of times I have played this CD. It is a pianistry of pure gold, combined with melodies that will never fade as time erodes the joy of lesser music. I have not been able to find fault with the ways Larsen interprets the music; as I lsiten, I can see him in my mind's eye crafting every note with tender care. His rendition of "Fingerbreaker" is breathtaking (I wish I could play like that !). The CD could equally be entitled man, piano and music for all seasons and all reasons. If you are at all hesitant about buying this disc and you like the piano and good music, don't hesitate, just buy it, you will not be disappointed and will reap tremendous pleasure from it. My only disappointment is that I have not been able to find a fingerbreaker volume 2!

Anyone who loves ragtime will love this recording. Each song is beautifully played and with great attention to tempo and detail. I particularly enjoy the last song, Joseph Lamb's "Sensation." It just makes me want to dance every time that I hear it! Also, the recording itself is clear and a pleasure to listen to.
