Almost, but not quite. October 29, 2003 Steve (essex) This CD has many good covers of the originals, but on a couple of tracks tends to add nothing but a "muzak" feel to a lively original. That said, the production and talents of a range of artists are fine, and the CD gives a pleasant hour or so listening. This will be an occasional rather than regular play for me.
A great CD for balmy summer nights. February 9, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I never knew there was so much depth to Jobim's music beyond 'Girl from Ipanema'. The CD is produced and arranged by Lee Ritenour, which is what attracted my attention to it - and it hasn't dissapointed. Most of the tracks are very laid back and cool. The highlights for me are Dindi - sung by El DeBarge, and a stunning version of Bonita played by Dave Grusin on solo piano. The tracks on the second part of the CD are not quite up to the first part which is why I havn't given 4 stars. The rendition of Girl from Ipanema is extremely good, but not quite a match for the original, with Al Jarreau sounding a little over produced. If you buy it, you won't regret it.
