beautiful song dreadful disc December 5, 2008 Iodo (UK) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
this song is clearly the stand out track from the hard candy album and subsequent tour, and it is such a shame it charted so poorly in the uk singles chart. warners have got to take responsibility though, they don't bother with a maxi cd single, instead just opting for a 2 track cd single and this rather pointless picture disc that does not even feature a picture of the beautiful lady herself. there have been some outstanding photographs taken to support the release and promotion of the album and I am dismayed they choose to release this with graphics instead of using a gorgeous shot of madonna such as those used in this years issues of elle :-( AMAZING AMAZING song though - and the remixes are very well done
The Queen of Pop on top form for the 3rd single from Hard Candy November 24, 2008 L. Green (London, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Barcode: 0054391990686 Miles Away is without a doubt one of the real highlights of the Hard Candy album. With it's beautiful blend of synths and acoustic guitar it is classic Madonna but with an interesting twist in the form of Timbaland/Timberlake's trademark beat-box backing. With particularly poignant and heartfelt lyrics, its sentimentality represents a nice juxtaposition to the more 'in your face' approach of the previous 2 singles from the album. It's a real shame this single has only had lukewarm airplay on the radio and pretty much complete lack of promotion due to the well-documented events in Madonna's personal life at the time. The Thin White Duke remix serving as the b-side is ok but doesn't particularly take my fancy, as a keen collector of all things Madonna though, this release is very much welcomed. Track Listing: 1. Miles Away (Album Version) 2. Miles Away (Thin White Duke Remix)
If ever there was a record.... November 20, 2008 E. Bryce 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
that is so in tune with Madonna's personal life this is it! When I first heard "Miles Away" I sensed there were problems with her marriage and now this song simply says it all. A sure fire hit and very catchy.
~Miles Away~ November 15, 2008 S. J. Pinder (Cornwall,UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
simply beautiful and rythmetic...it demands way more than the 100 listens that you most certainly will give it. Hard Candy has indeed become an instant success this year with 3.5 million(!) shipments out of the past 6 months...it is really no surprise considering the standard of the tracks on the album. Miles Away can only improve and maintain the album sales, as it is a true gem of a song that really invites you in to look deeper behind the lyrics and enchants you with its styalized pace and awe-inspiring beat...this is as pure Madonna gets. 4 Minutes,Gite It 2 Me and now Miles Away...each single as superb as the last and each one symbolises the true sharp uniqueness of Madge herself. Miles Away is certainly up there with previous ballads(Frozen,Oh Father,What it Feels Like For A Girl)yet having a unique spin and remaining the true heart of Hard Candy. the only obstacle in Miles Away's way is Britney Spears' smash single WOMANIZER being released as a single on the exact same day. Nevertheless,it will join the ranks of Hard Candy's counterpart singles and join the top ten list worldwide. Keep it up Maddy,Har Candy is amazing!
Third single off the multi platinum album Hard Candy. November 4, 2008 Mad Fan (Manchester UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Fantastic and quite apt third single release from her multi million selling album Hard Candy. Its been quite a while since Madonna released a down beat ballad type song (The last proper was the truly beautiful Power Of Goodbye). Its no haunting, power ballad from Madonna of old but what this single lacks in dramatic sound scapes, it more than makes up for that with its simplistic yet heart wrenching lyrical message. It speeks of un-requited love and the failure of one half of a partnership to be true to themselves and true to others....very apt considering the breakdown in her own relationship. The song itself is quite upbeat in rythm, typically Timberland/Timberlake but Madonna was always canny with a song.....the beat is uptempo but the lyrics certainly arn't. Accoustic in its set up with a hispanic tinge, Miles Away is the perfect final release from this, her most ambitious chapter in a long time...and her final release under Warners. Personally i feel that such a prestigious task should have gone to the more upbeat Beat Goes On, maybe as a single after Miles Away itself but the looming Greatest Hits package in Feb/March means there will not be enough time to release a much deserved 4th single from this fantastic album. The Beat Goes On would have closed one of the greatest chapters in musical history with a firm message to all....that Madonna's beat will still be going way past her old marriage and near ended record deal with Warners. Based on this then her last single under her old contract, Madonna still has a very bright if somewhat exciting future with Live Nation. Her last 10-15 years have been her most experimental to date, i see no reason why this should suddenly cease.....judging by her past, the future for her can only get better, Miles Away is as current as anything out there right now, fantastic single and a personal fave from the album. Coupled with some killer dance remixes by the one and only Stuart Price (Confessions, American Life), Peter Rauhofer, Johnny Viscious and Marcus "Demo" Castellon AKA Re-Birth, and you have the perfect package from the ultimate pop queen. Highly recommended.
