A MASTER CLASS ALBUM WITH ONE TRACK MISSING!!!! December 22, 2008 Jason Thorne (England / Oxford) This is a master class in how a album should be put together from the one and only Chicane. For me they were the cream of the dance bands in the early 90's and are still as popular today. On this album all the classic's are here for me the stand out tune is No Ordinary Morning. But there is one classic vocal tune missing which is a real shame it is OffShore 97 featuring Power Circle. If you haven't ever heard this you really have missed something special just go on YouTube tap it in sit back and enjoy a vocal classic that is one of the best dance mix tracks around to date. If you fancy giving Chicane a try you won't go far wrong here but if you are a massive fan like me you need this album in your collection now.
Good but could be better December 14, 2008 P. D. Mcnally (rugby, england) I have always had a big soft spot for Chicane, the best of for me represents a solid enough collection of Chicane. I would point out it is a shame 'strong in love' is not on this collection as it was released as a single and personally i would have liked to see this on this collection, also 'Red skies' for me off 'Far from the maddening crowds' would have been a better choice than leaving town as it is far more atmospheric and showcased exactly what excited people about Chicane's music in the first place. It seems to me that record companies don't always have a feel for the music and therefore don't release the best representive work. A best of should always be released after consulting the fans. Afterall they are the people who buy the music!!!
This Is Truly The Best Of Chicane December 9, 2008 Mr. L. Hall-smith (UK) Well as the title says, the album really does feature some of Chicanes finest (minus Autumn Tactics). All of the songs everyone remembers and recognises are present such as Saltwater, Offshore and Locking down. An avid fan of chicanes would surely be proud of this superbly chosen selection. As another reviewer has previously mentioned, this CD would work even better as a mixed album, it's a shame the manufacturers haven't released this as a separate version, though this is only a minor flaw as I see it and it's very hard to overlook all of the fantastic songs. I just know this album will get played over and over again.
I'll echo all the positives November 7, 2008 JoeShmoe (Edinburgh) Agree with most of the reviews listed. If, like me, you went to Uni in the early 90's and have been a fan of that genre ever since you'll have almost grown up with Nick Bracegirdle's music and all the myriad offferings it inspired and spawned From the days of saltwater to the excellent maddening crowds CD, his music has always evolved, always delivered and always impressed Keep it up for another 10 years Nick ..
Ahhh - Finally! October 20, 2008 Mr. F. Ghillani (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It's 1997, my TV's switched on and I'm watching MTV. A song is just starting, but the name hasn't appeared yet. I hear a very low hum, which starts picking up a beat and a beach appears... The title of the song and artis come up, one that i have never heard before but that will mark a new era in music history: Chicane - Saltwater. It blew me away. i still remember seeing the woman on the beach (from a bird's eye kind of view) and the sun reflected on the sand & water. The beat, the melody, the tune, it was AWESOME and i could not cope without the CD! Before all my cd's got stolen (at gatwick airport FYI) i had all the Chicane CD's. When I saw this CD advertised the other day I was astonished, I actually leaped up from the sofa and shouted "CHICANE!!!! THAT'S MY FAVOURITE DJ!" and my girlfriend just nodded, wondering what i was on. Clearly, I bought the CD and now she listens to it more than I do. Even though this is an awesome compliation, the other CD's remain a must have for two reasons: 1) they're all awesome, and 2) anyone who likes this sort of music respects Chicane and will want to have every piece of work this man has ever published. Thank you for an awesome 11 years!!!
