5 out of 5 stars Superb collection!   May 30, 2008

Although I'm not a Garth Brooks fan at all, I must admit that he
has had a string of wonderful hits that are all on this double CD
+ the "gift" of a DVD where all these hits can be seen. Besides,
the price of this "triple disc" offer is incredible. So much for
so little!

Although I already own three of Garth's original albums (four if you include Beyond The Season), as soon as I saw this release it was top of my 'to buy' list. Featuring classics from throughout his career, as well as some new tracks, this is the definitive collection. The one criticism I have is with the dvd part of the package. Unlike other reviewers, nothing to do with The Red Strokes (never among my favourite songs) but with the choices of some songs. After the criticism levelled at the video for The Thunder Rolls, Garth didnt release another until (I think) Standing Outside The Fire, but did record one for The River. Although this was never released at the time, surely this was a good opportunity to let his fans see this. The singalong which does feature on the dvd is a little disappointing, as is the official release of Aint Goin Down. The live performance from Texas Stadium in the mid 90's would have been better. Despite this, I think it's a fantastic collection and would recommend it to anyone, regardless of their taste in music

5 out of 5 stars A must for fans old or new   March 8, 2008

I'm not going to get into what or who Garth Brooks is to country music: some love him, some hate him - going by record sales it seems there are more of the former.

This collection is almost a career anthology covering everything from his first hit single - the traditional 'Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old) - to his most recent break from retirement - the it-shouldnt-work-but-it-does inspiring 'Working For A Livin' with Huey Lewis.

If you know Brooks' music all the essentials are here, if you dont then this collection is as good an introduction as you will find: more comprensive than 'The Hits' and more coherent than 'Double Live'.

My favourite thing about this CD is the variety of moods, from earnest ballads to sing-along rabble rousing honky-tonk there really is something for every one. And maybe this has been Brooks' greatest talent as performer and equally greatest downfall in the eyes of critics: giving the people what they want, whoever they are, whatever their tastes.

Also, maybe in answer to criticisms of re-packaging, the value for money here is good - you get two full audio CDs and a 33 track DVD.

All in all a fairly essential purchase from an, above all, important muscisian.

5 out of 5 stars The Greatest Greatest hits album ever!   March 2, 2008

I bought this cd thinking it was going to be ok but it turned out to be one of the best albums I have ever bought. You want to get into country and good mix of ballads and old style honkey-tonk? Then buy this album it is awesome.
